I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received an MA in History from Columbia University and a PhD degree in History from Princeton University.
Since 2003, I have taught at Stanford University, where I have also served as Director of the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and of the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies.
I am currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Afghanistan
published by the American Institute of Afghanistan Studies/Edinburgh University Press and CFO of
the non-profit think tank Institute for New Global Politics.
